I have always loved sport and growing up in South Africa I wasn’t short of sports to choose from or competitive athletes to compete against. I used to spend my summers surfing, water-skiing, competing in athletics, cricket and the winters playing rugby. After school I enrolled in the Army and within 6 weeks I was trying out for the Rugby team, it was during my first game that the scrum collapsed and with it my life....or so I thought.

I spent the next 2 years trying to achieve some normality in South Africa but it wasn’t until I packed up my bags and arrived in the UK that I found what I was looking for. After a chance encounter in the pub I heard about Wheelchair Rugby. Being the competitive bugger I am I was dying to see this sport. One go and I was hooked. The adrenaline, the noise, the speed, the competitive nature of the sport drew me in and I’ve truly not looked back since that day in 1995.

I joined London Broncos, as they were back then – we’re just London now, and have enjoyed incredible success with the best team in Europe. I have also played 3 seasons in the USQRA, one for Phoenix and 2 for Texas Stampede.

I have achieved more than I could have ever hoped for; I have travelled to places I had only dreamed of, met the most amazing people, been encouraged and challenged by others in similar situations to me and represented my country (GB) at World Championships and Paralympics games. I even helped create the first ever Wheelchair Rugby 7’s (Hong Kong Cup) in Hong Kong that ran in conjunction with the Hong Kong 7’s.

I’m busy preparing for the Paralympics in Beijing and 2008 is proving to be a tough year already. Plenty of time is spent away on training camps and away from the family, which is tough but thankfully I have a wonderfully supportive wife who will be there in Beijing cheering me on.

No matter what this year holds I’m looking forward to London 2012!!!!!
